New Volkswagen Virtus Launching Soon : Top 5 changes To Expect

German automaker’s only available sedan model in India to get a facelift four and a half years after its launch
Launched in India in June 2022, the VW Virtus is finally set to receive its mid-life facelift. Volkswagen has revealed the exterior of the facelifted Virtus and will likely reveal the interior and technical details later this month, with a price announcement following soon. Here are the top five changes you can expect on the new VW Virtus:
1. New automatic transmission
The new VW Virtus will likely be offered with the same two 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI Evo turbocharged petrol engine options as the outgoing model. While Volkswagen gives a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions with the 1.0-litre TSI engine in the outgoing model, in the new one, it will likely offer a 8-speed automatic unit instead of the latter.

The 8-speed automatic transmission is likely to be smoother and increase the fuel economy from 18.70 km/l to around 19.50 km/l. The automatic transmission option available with the 1.5-litre TSI Evo engine in the new model is likely to be the same 7-speed DSD dual-clutch unit offered in the outgoing model.
2. Enhanced safety
One of the few main drawbacks of the VW Virtus currently is a poor-quality rear-view camera. Volkswagen is likely to not just fix that with the facelift but also improve safety with the introduction of a 360° camera system that provides a bird’s-eye view of the car’s surroundings. Moreover, the company appears to have replaced the halogen front fog lamps with LED ones and introduced front parking sensors to further elevate safety.

3. Upgraded AC
Another widely criticised aspect of the VW Virtus currently is poor AC cooling, especially in the configurations with the 1.0-litre TSI engine. Volkswagen is likely to address this issue with the facelift by introducing a variable-geometry compressor.

4. Sequential turn indicators
While the tail lamps of the new VW Virtus look largely unchanged, they are likely to include new, sequential turn indicators that sweep outwards. This should give the car’s exterior a more premium look.

5. Virtual instrument cluster
The facelifted VW Virtus will be available with a fully digital instrument cluster measuring 10.25 inches diagonally. The new display will likely feature multiple layouts and show navigation directions.
